Things That Must Go Volume II - Social Media
Let me just start off this post with a blanket apology if I offend anyone. I'm sure I've been guilty of some or all of these at some point but sometimes I just can't handle, and I feel like it needs to be said and since this is my blog and I can say whatever I want, here goes...
Things that must go:
- Facebook status updates that are either super mundane and boring (i.e. So tired from the gym!) no one cares. Or updates that are just blatant cries for attention/validation. It's like the web has taken fishing for compliments to a whole other level. Stop with the back-door compliments.
- People who insist on talking about Politics. If I want to hear your views, I will ask.
- Facebook status updates that are ultra-personal (i.e. some weird suicidal song lyric) I really don't think the internet is the best venue to tell us all your deepest darkest emotions. You are making us uncomfortable and it makes you seem insincere.
- Feigned humility. If you have to start a sentence (or blog) with, 'this is going to make me sound so _____(vain, rude, racist, etc.) you just shouldn't say it. Just because you acknowledge that you are being _____ (vain, rude, racist, etc.) doesn't make it acceptable. We can see you through you. Really.
- Over-the-top PDA. If you have to tell your special someone that you love them on the world wide web, it makes the rest of us wonder why you can't just pick up a phone, or go to the next room and say it to their face. A little declaration of love is fine, but the constant stream of 'my _____ is the greatest, most thoughtful, spoils me with whatever I want, etc. etc. just makes it sound like you are trying to convince yourself. Not us.
- The fact that there isn't a 'dislike' option
- Twitter. Especially if you aren't a business or celebrity.
- The people that are just in it for the numbers. You know who I mean.

Nantucket Dreaming
I recently stumbled upon an article about this idyllic beach cottage on an island near Nantucket, and I'm in love. It's clean, fresh, casual, comfortable and ridiculously charming. Note only that, but it's completely green and self sustaining. Read more about it here, or just daydream about retiring there someday like I do.... ( I recommend listening to "Sittin on the Dock of a Bay" by Otis Redding while you scroll through the pictures)
Sigh....

Preston Hollow
Well I finally took some pictures of the new place for anyone that was curious what our apartment looks like (Katherine) or those of you who helped us move and were wondering how we were ever going to fit everything--particularly the love sac and couch. It's a lot smaller than our last place but is well worth it. It has brand new carpet (I saw them installing it the day before we moved in with my own eyes), there isn't a spec of mold in our bathroom, there's plenty of wondrous natural light, and the best part..... the washer and dryer. Some of you old roomies will definitely recognize some oldies but goodies. It's definitely still a 'student' apartment, but we are loving the change!

2 years later...
Brody and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary on Saturday by treating ourselves to dinner at La Caille. My boss had given me a gift certificate a few weeks back so we decided if we were ever going to go, now was the time. It was such a lovely evening, the grounds there are absolutely breathtaking (hence all the pictures) and the food was delicious as well.
Our meal started with a a delicious bread basket with 'ruse bouche' and small sampling of cucumber wrapped smoked duck. I had a beet salad with goat cheese and arugula and Brody had a crab salad with grapefruit and avocado. Then, I enjoyed Chicken Piccota with sun-dried tomatoes and capers and mashed potatoes and roasted veggies while Brody devoured a rib-eye steak. For desert we shared a trio of desert samplings; creme brulee, chocolate Chantilly cake and my personal favorite-a traditional french brioche with creamy dipping sauce. It was divine.
Following dinner we strolled the grounds and took some more pictures. It was so beautiful and very romantic. We ended the evening with a breathtaking sunset.
I can't believe it's been two years. They've flown by and I wouldn't change a thing!
