On the third day of their visit, my dad, Aunt Diane and Uncle Jack went to Gettysburg while my mom and I relaxed by their hotel's pool and did a little shopping. After they got back--and experienced the fun of driving in DC and the lanes that switch direction depending on the time of day--we all met up and went to dinner.
On Saturday, we all went to Arlington and visited the Kennedy grave site/eternal flame, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier for the changing of the guard, and finally the Lee Mansion. Then, we stopped at the Iwa Jima memorial before coming back into the District. That night, we all got to go on a very special tour of the West Wing--thanks to Brody and his old boss Shannon.
It. was. AWESOME. and so so so surreal, we saw the Situation room, the Roosevelt room, the Cabinet room, the Rose garden, and oh yeah...the Oval Office. We weren't allowed to take any pictures until we got outside and we were allowed to take pictures in the Press Conference room, where my dad said something embarrassing to get Shannon to laugh, and I caught it on camera. He had done so well up to that point :)
