Thanks to this lovely website, I spent a fair amount of yesterday doing portraits of Courtney, Joe and Katherine. Those last two were portraits of me that Courtney and Katherine did, respectively. So fun!

A Rainy Farewell

The night before Megan left, we capped off the trip with a jaunt to the White House in the rain. We got a little camera happy but all in good fun. It was so fun to have her visit!

Sunday in the City

On Sunday, Megan came to our ward for an unforgettable fast and testimony meeting. After church, we drove over to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and walked around for a bit. The building is stunning; stained glass and mosaic tiles for days. When we got home, me and Megs had to take some pictures in our twinner outfits we'd bought in Georgetown.

Eastern Market

The next day we went over to beautiful Eastern market for some shopping...we had really good intentions, but the humidity was near 100% and an outdoor market is just not where you want to be. Everyone moved like zombies it was just so hot. Even inside it was just so crowded we only stayed for maybe an hour.

Shopping in Georgetown

Megan and I spent most of Friday shopping in Georgetown, as one does when it's in the 90's with 80% humidity.  We walked to the charming canal, visited Gringotts, popped in Georgetown cupcake, and scored some serious sales at J Crew (40% off already marked down sale items).  Then, that night we met up with Brody and walked over to the mall to see the Lincoln, MLK, and Jefferson in the much cooler 80 degree temps.

Megan in Town

It was so fun to have Megan come visit us over the 4th of the July! We started things off by getting some delicious empanadas in our neighborhood, then strolled around Dupont and did some people watching.  For the 4th, we spent most of the day on the mall starting at the Library of Congress, then over to Union Station, then the Fine Arts and Natural History Smithsonians, capping it off with fireworks on the roof of my work building (which was an obstructed view so we ran down to the street and watched at a nearby park).

They're Not Even Trying Anymore

So....student loan rates doubled today.  Thank again Congress/Obama!

"Democrats, Republicans, and the Obama administration failed to strike a deal to prevent the increase, although congressional leaders say an agreement is still possible after the July 4 recess ends next week.

For now, students are left without any clarity as they face August bills for the fall semester. If there is no deal, the 7 million students expected to take out new subsidized Stafford loans this academic year could be stuck with thousands of dollars more in interest costs."
