Blerg.

So the mattress was supposed to be delivered yesterday.  Brody and I had prepared last weekend by moving furniture and getting everything ready, dreaming of what a good night's sleep we were going to get and thrilled at getting some semblance of normalcy back to our apartment (we still don't have carpet or a ceiling in our bedroom because everything has to be done through the co-op, and blah blah blah, that's a whole other issue)

...And then basically everything that could go wrong did. The genius delivery people showed up with one XL Twin box spring. Yes, one twin-sized box spring for a King mattress. Then, the mattress itself was torn, and it wasn't even double-sided. We obviously refused to sign for anything and then when they brought our old Queen set back in, it was covered in dirt and mud from their delivery truck.
...

So not only did they not deliver what we had ordered, they ruined what we'd had to begin with. I was and still am shocked at how poorly it went. I had thought that buying from a company as reputable as the Williams Sonoma brand companies would have been a sure-thing. I had naively assumed "white-glove" delivery service would actually be competent and good.  Now, we are completely back to square one as far as finding a mattress and I've written to their customer service about just how poorly everything went, describing in great detail how a full refund doesn't equate restitution since they also destroyed our property in the process.  We'll see how they respond.

I'm sorry that the blog has now become a running diatribe of first-world problems for me to whine about. Poor me, my king size mattress didn't work out.  I realize how ridiculous it is and how much worse it could be. But, I'm also just wondering what Brody and I did to make the universe so mad at us...

Spring Fever

Happy Friday!!! This week has been absolutely wonderful between the holiday on Monday, Brody taking me out on our post-Valentine's dinner to our usual spot, and the weather has been in the 50's and 60's! Tomorrow it's supposed to even get up to 64 and be sunny! Everything is just better and easier when it isn't bitter cold out.  I feel like we are finally starting to dig out of the winter blues and I'm excited and nervous and anxious all at the same time.

You guys what happened to this month?!  I think it must have been the Olympics. Even though they got off to a really slow, rough start, they've gotten much better and it's basically all we've been watching for the last two weeks. Even though the US is currently winning the medal race I still feel like these haven't been as good as Vancouver, but what can you do?  I can't believe it's already the end of February! Well... that went by MUCH faster than January but it's now starting to make me feel a little panicked.  I guess we better get our lives in order for baby girl to arrive. I'm starting my third trimester this week. Ahh! It's gone by so fast.

27 Weeks

Happy Friday everyone! I realize I've been pretty terrible at documenting the growth of my bump so I had Brody take a couple of pictures yesterday during our snow day.  DC got about 8 inches and I finally got my snow day off from work. It was lovely, I finally got to wear my bean boots!  I'm feeling really good, have been craving citrusy fruits again lately (before that it was cupcakes, and before that is was chocolate chip cookies) and I'm really not a sweets person so yes cupcakes is a little out of the ordinary for me although nothing weird. I can't believe next week will start my third trimester. Yikes!

McCall and James had their baby girl! Paisley Aloise Shoff was born right on schedule on her due date, coming in at 6 lbs 15 oz and 19 inches long. We're so happy for them and can't wait to meet her!

West Elm to the Rescue

We got our check last week from the insurance company and ordered our new mattress last night! Woo hoo for King size!  After my exhaustive search for a double-sided, quality mattress I finally decided to order the Serta Perfect Sleeper - Firm from West Elm, (yes--West Elm sells mattresses) and the lovely customer service ladies assured me that yes, it is double-sided and flippable.  And one of them even told me I should try to sell my old mattress on Craiglist. Which, we both agreed that ew who buys a used mattress off Craigslist? but she said she recently had to get rid of hers so she listed it on there and had like 8 people interested.  Isn't that crazy?  I don't know if we will end up doing that, because Craigslist is always a bit sketchy, and what kind of people would actually buy a used mattress off there ammiright? But we are definitely excited to have a new king size bed on the way!

Happy Friday Indeed

Well the power thing arrived today, I took it home at lunch and Brody installed it....and the computer is back to life! Such a huge relief, I would have been pretty devastated if we'd lost all of our pictures and files from the last five years. Now we can back it all up on the new external hard drive and not worry about this kind of thing in the future. And that's today's PSA. Back up your stuff people!

The More You Know!

Wait. Really???

And the hits just keep on coming.  So...we all know about the things happen in 3's school of thinking right?  You know, good and bad things happen in 3's?  Well, I will be honest, I was kind of wondering what was going to be our "third thing" after the flood and fire alarm--a nagging little thought in the back of my mind.  But I thought since it was February that maybe we were in the clear...

And then our computer died yesterday.

The absolute clincher though is that after all these crazy near-misses with the flood and fire alarm we decided we really needed to buy an external hard drive to back everything up in case something catastrophic did happen and we lost all our stuff on there. So Brody ordered the external hard drive and it came yesterday. Yesterday. As in, the exact day and for all I know the very hour it died.  Literally, a day late and a dollar short.  Isn't that just kind of a low blow by the universe? Like, really??? Something that ironically cruel doesn't really happen in real life does it?

Apparently, it does.

We aren't sure exactly what happened to the computer, it just wasn't on when Brody got home yesterday and with all his tech-savvy wizardry, he couldn't get it to turn on. We're hoping it was the power something (I can't remember the technical name for it) and that it didn't spark and fry everything when it went out, but we have no way of knowing for sure right now.  We may have lost nothing, but we also may have lost it all.
**thank goodness for posting pictures on the blog, eh?

In the meantime, I just have to laugh at this point and think about baby girl because she is the ray of sunshine piercing through our little black rain-cloud.

Six Months

You guys it's February! We made it through January! We're that much closer to Spring!!!

Also, I'm in my 26th week, which is just over six months. Isn't that crazy?!  Other than some routine queasiness in my first trimester it's been pretty smooth sailing for me.  I have been in what I've heard called the second trimester sweet spot for a while and I think it lulled me into a false sense of security. However,  my lower legs and feet have started to swell a little at the end of the day, (usually just on days when I have work), so I've been drinking more water, which means I'm going to the bathroom about 85 times a day. So that's fun, and last night I had the worst charley horse of my life in my right calf. I couldn't believe how bad it was, but apparently they are very common in pregos. Not surprising. But these recent developments are making me nervous for the third trimester, and I had to document how it's all been going since so much has been dedicated to other concerns on the blog lately.

Baby girl is kicking like crazy, we can even see my belly move now when she moves! It's so crazy and has become Brody's new favorite activity.  It's crazy to think how much our lives are going to be completely different in a few months. Like forever, completely and totally different in more ways than one. We're so excited!
