National Arboretum

It's been unseasonably warm here lately. I'm talking, around 70 degrees last weekend...

So naturally we ventured out on Saturday and went to the National Arboretum. I had been dying to go for a drive to see the gorgeous fall leaves, and the arboretum was the perfect option. Brody had been working on a massive paper all weekend and we didn't have enough time to venture outside the District, luckily the Arboretum is located right in Northeast and was a nice, short ride away.
The leaves are stunning. The woods here are just different. I've grown up mostly with pine and aspen, so to see all the different variety of trees (and actaully have quite a few of them labled for me) was fantastic. The little bonsai gallery/exhibit was particularly fun. Is it bad I can't think of a bonsai tree without thinking of Saved By the Bell? Ya know the episode where Mr. Belding gets one, and of course Zach, Screech and the gang inevitably ruin it by trimming it too much?

This one was so cool, it looked like a little model forest.

There are some other cool things at the Arboretum as well, like these awesome old pillars that used to hold up the Portico over the Capitol Building...

Between the gorgeous foliage and perfect weather, I was just loving life, and couldn't help taking a ton of pictures.
